Anthony Martial agrees new five-year deal to stay at Manchester United
Manchester United are set to announce a new five-year deal for Anthony Martial after the Frenchman agreed to stay at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have been locked in negotiations with the Frenchman’s agent over the last 12 months but talks slowed early in 2018 following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.
Martial lost his place in the side and his relationship with Jose Mourinho detoriated to the point where his representatives claimed last summer that he wanted to leave the club.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival has given Martial a new lease of life at Old Trafford and talks have accelerated in the last fortnight.
According to French outlet RMC, Martial will sign his new deal before Friday this week and the club will announce the extension in due course. Martial currently earns around £120,000-a-week at Old Trafford and his pay is likely to be boosted to around £190,000-a-week.
The news will be a huge boost for United, who refused to sell the winger last summer when Jose Mourinho made it clear he could leave.
The club will now focus their efforts on convincing David De Gea, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera to pen extensions. De Gea is happy to stay at the club but wants parity with top earner Alexis Sanchez to extend his eight-year stay at the Theatre of Dreams.
