Denis Suarez travels to London to complete Arsenal transfer
Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez will arrive in London on Wednesday to complete his move to Arsenal. The Gunners reached a major breakthrough in their negotiations with Barcelona on Tuesday as Suarez agreed to extend his contract with the Spanish champions.
Talks had hit an impasse earlier this month as Barcelona were unwilling to allow Suarez to leave on loan unless Arsenal were required to buy the midfielder this summer. Barcelona attempted to find a solution by offering Suarez a one-year extension to his current contract which was due to expire in June 2020.
Suarez initially rejected Barcelona’s workaround and Arsenal appeared set to miss out on one of Unai Emery’s top targets for the January window.
But Suarez has since changed his mind and his decision to agree to a new deal with Barcelona, which protects his value in the event that Arsenal do not permanently sign him this summer, has paved the way for his switch to the Gunners.
Arsenal have now agreed a €2 million (£1.7m) loan deal with Barcelona which includes the option of permanently signing Suarez for €25m (£21.7m) at the end of the season.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Suarez is travelling to London on Wednesday to undergo a medical and finalise his move to Arsenal. Luis Suarez, who plays alongside Suarez at Barcelona, has wished the 25-year-old good luck ahead of his move to the Gunners.
